Half Marathon Training Week #1 & Coconut Lovers Anonymous Protein Shake Recipe

Happy Hump Day!

It’s been pretty damn chilly over here in glamorous NY and
the runner inside of me is starting to get extremely frustrated.

I decided at the end of 2012 that I wanted to sign up for the Long Island Half Marathon (this would be my second Half Marathon; My first was in October 2012 - Diva Half Marathon (Recap)), with the main reason being to push myself out of my comfort zone

The comfort zone that I’m referring to is my pure hatred of the cold.

I know I know...
I'm working on it!
The cold and I were just not meant to be…

I prefer to run in gorgeous 60-70 degree temperatures (Runner Brat).

Since the Long Island Half Marathon falls on May 5th , this would mean that my training would be during the coldest months of the year (ugh, torture.. why do I do this to myself? < - - dramatic, I know).  I envy all of those winter runners who won’t let simple, minuscule things like a blizzard get in their way…

Seriously, I saw runners out on the ice rink pavement the day after this Nemo tackled NY storm… How? Why?

Anyways, last week was technically Week #1 of Half Marathon Training for my upcoming race.

So how did it go?

It kind of didn’t…

Well, first let me share with you my training schedule that I tentatively put together:

Half marathon training schedule, training schedule, race schedule
Half Marathon Training Schedule
So, as you can see I had quite a few, shorter runs planned for Week #1...

Tuesday: (3 Miles Scheduled) – This run I was able to complete but…. On the evil dreadmill… I hate treadmills… seriously it’s not even a joke.  I can run outside no problem but on the treadmill, ugh it’s hell! I know I’m being SO dramatic but it’s the truth! Well, I ran on Tuesday… I did my 3 miles but couldn’t wait to jump off.  Not much else to discuss.

Thursday: (4 Miles Scheduled) – Nope, I didn’t do it.  Instead I took a boot camp type class for 60min and then got a 30min Spin class in.  No running, not today…

Weekend: (4 Miles/ 2.5 Miles Scheduled) – I definitely had it in the back of my mind that I needed to get out there and run... and by out there, I mean in the cold, outdoor running on the pavement.  This run I actually WANTED to do (since during the weekdays I can only really run on the treadmill due to the hours that I can exercise being during the dark – I do not want to be featured on an episode of Law N Order thank you very much - dun dun dun). So what did I do? I decided to workout for 3 hours AT my gym, no no no I didn’t run haha, that would be silly right? Instead I was just all over the place.  I took a strength training class and I did a bunch of non-running cardio.  How about Sunday? Nope, no... I took kickboxing haha and even though I wanted to run later on in the afternoon, I swear it was the coldest day ever and the wind was just insane.  So nope, I didn’t run at all… Huge Half Marathon Training Runner FAIL!

I'm officially on Week #2 so, I’m hoping that this and the weeks ahead go much more smoothly and the weather works with me and not against me!

Doesn’t Mother Nature know that I have to run!?!?!?

She’s SO selfish!

By the way a little props to me for making it to my gym's 5:00 a.m. gym class two weeks in a row!

woop woop!

I even got a pretty sunrise on the way home!
DO-NOT-MIND-THE-ODD-BUN-ON-MY-HEAD

who goes out in public like that?
I even had time to relax and enjoy a delicious Protein Shake to refuel!

  1. Yum, I love coconut :) Great job getting to 5am class, it is tough to get up that early. I hate cold weather too, makes training tough :(
